Our Future

Our Goals
Washington Community Education was founded to benefit the children of our community by enhancing their academic success, personal enrichment, and global vision. We educate children from varied socio-economic backgrounds. However, we concentrate especially on the young students who speak English as a second language and whom we determine to have the greatest need.

Our main goal is to ensure that our community and global students are prepared to enter America’s most select secondary schools and colleges as well as the professions of their choice. We use a multi-faceted approach to facilitate academic and personal growth and enrichment. This responsibility starts with our staff of professional Educational Advisors and Mentors and extends to Student Volunteers, Tutors, and Leaders of the organization.

Our Vision
Our vision, of course, is to enable all students to earn perfect scores on the SAT® or the TOEFL® iBT test and go to the colleges of their dreams. While this dream is not realized in every case, we do our best to tailor the program to each student, and we will not be satisfied until students fulfill their maximum potentials.

Though we have begun serving mostly Asian-American students who have economic or language disadvantages, we emphasize equal opportunities for all students. We are committed to helping all students of varying backgrounds achieve their academic and personal goals. As Washington Community Education evolves and grows within the community, we hope to appeal to a greater diversity of youth and adults.

Our Mission
Our mission at Washington Community Education is nothing less than the total success of all our students in their school years and in later life. We provide a competent and knowledgeable staff of professional Educational Advisors and Mentors to ensure that students both learn and learn to lead. We will continue to work with the select community and global partners to provide students with the foundations they require for future academic and personal success. We look forward to the coming years as we grow with our students and share in their achievements.

Our Future
Currently, Washington Community Education holds tutoring sessions in the greater Washington, D.C. area. As resources are limited, we depend on parents and students for transportation. As we grow in the community, we anticipate that our resources will grow commensurately. We will be able to offer students and parents more services, including transportation. We will also have more spacious facilities for group sessions, classroom instructions, and community conferences.

We have provided our students with extracurricular stimulation by chaperoning and subsidizing 9/11 writing workshops in New York City and field trips to the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. We plan to make more such offerings in the future. As stated previously, while our ultimate goal is the academic success of our students, we believe that leadership development and cultural enrichment are integral to the development of healthy and successful adults. To continue to improve our services and help more people, however, we must enter a phase of transition.

Washington Community Education has been granted a tax-exempt, public charity status by the Internal Revenue Service, a U.S. federal government agency (www.irs.gov). We are actively seeking tax-deductible contributions and donations. This, however, will probably not solve all of our financial shortcomings. To continue to maintain, expand, and improve the level and number of services we offer, we need to generate operating revenue through various community and global educational programs.

As our financial resources grow from the operating revenue generated from various community and global educational programs, we wish to offer more low cost or free programs to Washington area residents who would benefit but who lack the ability to pay. We also hope to coordinate and offer more exciting and critical community educational charity events, such as Washington Essay Competitions, Educational Seminars for Parents, a Tsunmai Relief Concert, and a Katrina Relief Youth Talent Show.

We would also like to recognize officially the volunteers who give so much time and effort, without recompense, to our cause. In advance, we thank everyone for their generous contributions and gracious dedication. At W.C.E., our adult and student volunteers are our greatest asset.
